Danny and Jenny Rampling's Shoom night adopts the "Smiley" logo for it's flyers - giving an icon to the entire scene and spawning an entire industry of Smiley merchandise - even The Sun does their own T-shirts.

The Trip launches at The Astoria in London.

Tony Colston-Hayter holds his Apocalypse Now parties at Wembley Studios and invites an ITN film crew in. He later renames it Sunrise and holds a seminal event in an old gas works which results in a huge police raid.

Student Paul Hartnolll is beaten by plain-clothes police officers in a raid on an illegal acid party in Kent. He goes on to form Orbital with his brother.

James Barton brings acid house to Liverpool with his "Daisy" event - the forerunner to Cream.
