Manchester police continue a long running battle with the Hacienda after a death the previous summer. After a long court case the club is allowed to stay open.

20th Anniversary of Glastonbury. It was renamed “Glastonbury Festival for Contemporary Performing Arts”. There were huge clashes between travellers and police with 235 people arrested and £50,000 worth of damage. As a result of this, it was cancelled the following year.

The Entertainment (Increased Penalties) Act was introduced to increase the fines for not having a license in a venue used for dancing, music or other entertainment.
