 THE NEWS

  • Ministry of Sound Record label releases first ever compilation mixed by Tony Humphries and promotes it by projecting their logo onto the House of Commons.

  • Daft Punk meet Stuart Macmillian - owner of Soma Recordings at a rave at Euro Disney. He signs their demo “The New Wave” and an electronic music legend is born.

  • New Order break up whilst on the tour for their album Republic.
    2 Unlimited spend 5 weeks at the top of the UK charts with “No Limit”.

  • The first Radio 1 Essential Mix is broadcast with Pete Tong.

  • 6,000 people rave in the New Year 1993 with Fantazia at Littlecote House near Hungerford, Berkshire

  • Fantazia do their last hardcore event at the Sanctuary, Milton Keynes. 

  • The Criminal Justice Bill is put to Parliament with the new rave clause, defining a ‘rave’ as 100 or more people dancing outdoors to music “mainly comprising of repetitive beats”. New powers for the Police will include the right to detain anyone they believe is heading to an illegal rave and the right to confiscate sound systems.

  • New laws meant the scene started going "legit" with legal raves, clubs and events. This was the start of the super-club era for the likes of Cream, Renaissance and Ministry of Sound.

  • Leeds nightlife suffers a tragedy as Ali Cooke - resident DJ and co-founder of Back To Basics sadly passed away in a car crash alongside Jos Higgin - the girlfriend of Ralph Lawson.
