Dance Music Archive 002 : 5/10/24
A HUGE thank you to everyone who came down to our second Dance Music Archive event at Project House in October. It was another sell out capacity crowd of the most amazing people, with a thousand smiling faces and hardly a phone in sight.
Our secret line up of DJs raised a lot of smiles as people arrived at the venue. Kicking off the proceedings was Leeds house music legend Tony Walker (who stepped in last minute only 2 hours before the doors opened), and set the scene and atmosphere for the night. We love you Tony. Next up was one of the pioneers of the UK rave scene - the one and only Slipmatt. As SL2 he was one of the first signings to XL Records back in the early 90s, and went on to play at all the original raves and illegal parties across the UK. He gave a masterclass in the roots of British dance music, and is always one of the nicest men you could ever wish to meet. Chief librarian of the Dance Music Archive - Andi Durrant - took control of the stage next to play us through 1995-1996, joined on stage later on by Nick for a Riley & Durrant early trance and progressive set. Rounding off the evening was the legend that is Judge Jules, who we tasked with playing 1998 to 2000, and he delivered a set of classics from his days at BBC Radio 1, Gatecrasher, Cream and Godskitchen.

Thanks to everyone who made the first ever Dance Music Archive party such a huge success. Our debut party on Saturday 20th April at the new Project House event space in Leeds was a complete sell out, and we've had some of the most amazing messages, emails and social posts about it. We always wanted it to be about who was going, not who was playing, and it really was the very best crowd of people we've seen anywhere for many years.
That being said, we hope you did enjoy our secret line up of DJs!
Back to Basics resident Buckley warmed things up with some of the tracks he'd played at the Hacienda back in the day, and he was followed by Allister Whitehead - one of the original British superstar DJs playing 1992-1994 tracks. Leeds legends and UK dance pioneers the Utah Saints absolutely smashed the warehouse playing music from 94-96, before Andi Durrant took over for the 96-98 slot. The night was rounded off with a trance classics set from Riley & Durrant who pulled out some of the forgettem gems from their days at Gatecrasher, Cream, Passion, Slinky and Ministry.
Food came courtesy of Little Bao Boys and the Homeboy Pizza company and there was lots of outside space to chill, drink and eat in the evening sunshine. We can't wait to do it again soon...
